Nordic Institute for Product Sustainability, Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology (NIPSECT) was established in 2010 with the aim of making research, development, information, consulting and networking regards:

1. Concepts and assessment tools for greening of products and their value chains, for example:

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Life Cycle Management (LCM)
  • Carbon-,Water- and Ecological Footprints
  • Ecolabelling and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
  • Green and Sustainable  Public Procurement
  • Environmental/Green Design
  • Green Building Materials,  Green Buildings and Green Cities
  • Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • Green and Sustainable Chemistry

2. Assistance for introduction and development of Environmental Impact Assessment, Management, Certification and Applications.

3. Use guidelines, classification, labelling  and hazard assessment for chemical agents used at workplaces, e.g. organic solvents and pesticides, and in consumer and household products such as cosmetics and textiles. It could be:

  • Plasticizers
  • Stabilisators
  • Surfactants
  • Dyes and color pigments
  • Preservatives
  • Biocides
  • Flame retardants

4. Occurrence and risk assessment of chemical pollutants and contaminants in water, air, , dust, soil and waste, for example:

  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) ,for example
    • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB),
    • Dioxins,
    • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers,
    • Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD)
    • Polyfluoroalkylated substances, for example PFOS and PFOA
  • Carcinogens
  • Climate gasses
  • Heavy metals
  • Trace elements and vitamins
  • Etc.
